Stage One – Flat – 135 km - 22/01/2013
VS’ winner prediction : Griepel / Goss
A sprinter is going to win the first stage without a doubt. With the stage win, they will also go into the second stage wearing the leader’s ochre jersey. Griepel will want to carry on showing his good form, following his People’s Choice Classic over the weekend.
The only categorised climb is a category 1 coming 93.1 before the finish. It should not affect the stage win result, but there are still points to become the SKODA King of the Mountain leader into the second stage.
A break will almost certainly be able to get away very early on, with the ride going skywards pretty much from the start. The sprinters’ teams will be in control of the break all day though. The peloton should make the catch with a nice amount of distance to go if there aren’t any major crashes which split up the race.
