Telling the parents

Well, not just the parents, but all my friends and family.

One of the most often asked questions when any of my friends or family saw my bike was

“Nice man, how much did that cost you.”

When I told my parents how much it cost, they were gobsmacked. Mainly due to they didn’t know I had that much money (I had been saving up from all the little jobs I had been doing, and sold an online gaming account for quite alot of money) and that I wouldn’t use that money on something like learning to drive. They tried putting me off buying the bike for a few weeks, but in the end they finally agreed to let me keep the bike in the house if I brought it :)

My mates all said that they could of brought a car with that amount of money, and no matter how much I explained, they were having none of it. They also used the aged old excuse of RLJing with comments “So, you can jump red lights quicker now” ect.

I explained quite well on why I didn’t want to learn to drive. It would simply cost me as much as I spent on my bike for driving lessons and tests, never mind the actual buying of a car (My dads cars are too expensive for me to drive) and the insurance which would be pretty much the same amount of the car if I were to buy one, fuel etc.

I could of course wasted all my money on going out, new clothes etc, but that way I couldn’t sell them on again like I could with a bike.

A few months on, my family understand why I brought a bike with my money instead of doing other stuff, but the majority of my mates do not, and are slowly loosing interest which is great for me.
